KEY EXPERIENCES FOR THE STUDENTS:

 

1)       Developing personality through:

Personal time to reflect in a peaceful, quaint, environment, defining values and beliefs, exploring possibilities and potential,success in learning,goal setting,blocks of time away from parents in a safe,rural,small community.

2)       Developing Intellect by: developing thinking tools,reading ‘the classics’,problem-solving,research  discovery.Discussions,seminars,philosophical discussions,hands-on science,scientific environment & experiments,science projects,foreign,language

3)       Expressing Oneself through: art,music,creative arts, drama,dance,plays,public performance, speaking to a group, debate.

4)       Building Community by: assuming a participatory and responsible role within the community, building a ‘just’ community, community events and meetings

5)       Relating to Peers by: resolving conflict, teamwork, group work, study and debate topics.

6)       Relating to adults : social courtesy,moral judgement, role models,relationships with adults who are fascinated by life and love being mentors and guides!

7)       Serving others: caring and sharing with older and younger people, community service, internships, helping younger students throughout day

8)       Developing business skills: real work in business community, maintaining the ‘hobby farm’ business, kitchen maintenance,meal prep.,fundraising activities, internships if applicable, exploring the natural and man-made environments, going out into the community,visits to small town & out-of-town trips to museums, theatres, etc. (within ½ hour drive from school), camping, outdoor experiences, land activities, vegetable garden

9)       Assuming responsibility: creating and maintaining the environment,decision-making,student planning of activities (ie.field trips), taking responsibility for own learning – self-directed and research!

10)   Working: physical and manual labour and academic work at the same time, practical living (ie. farm duties,kitchen duties, residence duties, (where applicable), working with animals)

All of our lives have a purpose…let’s help teens find a safe, nurturing place where they can appreciate others’ beliefs, self-learn, follow their own interests and pursue their own destiny…
