                          MISSION STATEMENT

Spirit of the Hill Elementary Program is dedicated to serving ALL AT-RISK  students based on the values and principles of Maria Montessori combined with Christian Montessori Fellowship ideals. Our spiritual-based Montessori ‘Melting-Pot’ aims to create an emotionally safe family dwelling where children from all different religious,socio-economic, diverse backgrounds can find unity and common ground in accepting one another’s learning differences – ‘our students’ own home for study, work, and spiritual self-discovery’.

PROVIDING ‘HIGH SCHOOL READINESS SKILLS FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS…

‘SPIRIT OF THE HILLS’ ELEMENTARY PROGRAM provides at-risk school students the basic reading, spelling and math skills necessary for academic success! SHEP has proof that Montessori education uses the multisensory approach and is highly effective for serving intelligent students with learning differences.  Caregivers actively seek our help for children with dyslexia, attention deficits(&hyperactivity), or speech and language disorders,AND GIFTEDNESS! Directresses at SHEP are highly skilled in identifying and teaching to  each individual child’s developmental level, without focusing on age-level development, and in using a hands-on approach rather than typical ‘textbook’ teaching. Only through this experience of meaningful, and successful learning, a child’s positive self-concept is enhanced and our God-given gifts can shine through!!!!

CANDIDATES FOR ADMISSION

‘Pre-highschool’ aged students who are slipping through the cracks’ of the Public System, who have difficulty learning, and who read below grade level, those learning at an advanced level (giftedness), that are not reaching individual potential because classmates are receiving more attention or they are being held back from reaching individual goals for other reasons are candidates for admission. After all, in a Montessori classroom, all students learn at their own individual pace, and their own individual developmental levels/cognitive abilities‘,  SHEP’s goal is to sufficiently strengthen the academic skills of many at-risk youth in our community , and beyond,  in order to enable them to re-enter public school, or to enter high school armed with the tools to succeed.

WE WELCOME  LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Trent Hills Montessori School is located in Campbellford , ON , which is a small, rural town located halfway between Peterborough and Belleville .  The School was newly built in 2004.  We are in the process of beginning a new Elementary Level Montessori Program for ages 9-12 years, and Junior High School for ages 12-14 years.

Presently, our School accommodates approximately 30 local students in our Toddler’s House (18-30 months) and the Children’s House (2 ˝-5 years).

Our new Farm School is an expansion of our existing School based on Maria Montessori’s envisionment of a “rural, although, not isolated, setting for the ‘Erdkinder’ (meaning, “Children of the Earth”) wherein farming activities – ie. chicken coops, goats, horseback riding/grooming, chores, gardening, and ‘vegetable stand sales’, fruit trees, and eventually family/boarding houses were studied and taught.”

Trent Hills Montessori Farm School will reflect the words of Maria Montessori that:

“The overriding interest of these children is an exploration of reality…to include both the natural world and the world of human organization: Commerce, trade, production and economic exchange……she refers to the abilities to form elementary childs’ socially responsible personalities as a ‘mystery’-a ‘mystery within which ‘the innermost calling of humankind is found.”
